Christine is a phd candidate, an author, a psychotherapist and frankly a badass lady. She is a West Coast Queen (like me) - splitting her time between San Francisco and the Pacific Northwest and on one of her trips up north she asked me if I could capture her as she is now. She needed the usual, professional pictures for her website and her work, personal pictures for her mom and her friends. And she also really wanted to see herself - she knows that it's not only babies that are changing every day but all of us all the time, and she wanted to really see herself.
We are always changing as humans. It is not just hair cuts and growth charts, it is laugh lines and wisdom in the eyes and a new bigger, freer laugh we didn't have before. I was so thrilled by the opportunity to capture Christine in all her beauty and all her strength. I yearn to help my people tell their story in images. Christine's story is of a single, kind and fierce, academic feminist who is writing her phd on PMS. I was determined to show that attitude, that bravery, that can-do-spirit in each and every shot.
Christine loves the rain and she loves her books and she loves laughing and talking and the green of the leaves and the trees in the north and the water and I just knew that we could fit all of that in for her! So we did!
We shot outside and we shot inside and we did funny and we did serious and we did big and we did small. And it shows. I feel so proud of the depth and breath of these portraits.
