We moved into our little fourplex 4 years ago. We were moving under duress - our landlords were bulldozing our house and we had been besties with our previous neighbors at our old house and I was in no mood to move.
Luckily the universe knew better than I did.
We quickly fell in love with our new three neighbors and our kiddo did too. One day, when my one year old locked me out of the house when I went to take the trash out, I met my neighbor Sherri and her darling one year old Ella. As soon as they could talk, my son and her daughter named themselves brother and sister and they've been fighting and loving and yelling and adventure hunting ever since. I'm obsessed with photographing thier love for each other because it is so pure and thier little personalities keep changing as they grow and grow. Ella's hair is MAGIC for my camera and thier hijinks provide regular entertainment to the whole block.
I wanted to publish these here because my neighbors are part of my family, part of my life and I don't want to remember this time in our lives without remembering them. I encourage you to think about who you want to include in your portraits. Consider who you love, who you want to remember your love for, and which relationships you consider important. Have you thought about hiring a photographer for your family reunion? For your kids birthday? For your neighborhood block party? For your pta extravaganza? For your best friends who are moving away after ten years together?
I'm just saying y'all. The world is big and there is a lot of love in it.
